Chief Archivist

Job Description and Requirements

As the successful candidate you will hold a master’s degree in library science or information studies, or a bachelor’s degree in information technology, history, archeology, or a relevant field. 

You will have seven (7) years of experience in cultural institutions, academic experience, or similar field related to archiving.

Duties & Responsibilities:
You will be required to perform the following: 

  • Identify methods of protecting and preserving collections.
  • Prepare record-keeping systems and procedures for archival research and for the retention or destruction of records.
  • Specialize in the acquisition, management, description, and preservation of photographic or audiovisual materials or electronic records.
  • Records management, digitization, public outreach, writing, and teaching.
  • Manage and supervise staff; and take responsibility for overall strategy.
  • Liaise with donors and depositors of archives to acquire new collections.
  • Arrange the acquisition and retrieval of records.
  • Organize and rehouses collections.
  • Describes collections and write finding aids.
  • Assists researchers in using the collections.
  • Evaluate records for preservation and retention.
