Refining Technology Expert

Job Description and Requirements

We are seeking a Refining Technology Expert to join the Refining & Upgrading Research & Development Division (R&U R&DD) within our Research and Development Center (R&DC). 

R&U R&DD is responsible for providing short- and long-term research and development (R&D) solutions for domestic refining and fractionation operations.

Minimum Requirements:

  • As the successful candidate, you will hold a Ph.D. or master’s degree in chemical engineering from a leading accredited university.  
  • You will have at least 20 years of experience within a major technology licensing and/or oil company, with a strong background in all refining process technologies, particularly bottom of the barrel technologies, including hydrotreating, hydrocracking fluid catalytic cracking, coking, and gasification. 
  • You will have experience in R&D, process design, technology development, commercialization, and refining operation with a strong knowledge in catalysis, thermodynamics, mass transfer, and kinetics and modeling.  
  • You will also possess working knowledge and experience in catalyst testing, evaluation, and liquid/solid analysis/characterization.

Duties & Responsibilities:
You will be required to perform the following:

  • General consulting and planning of development programs, overseeing pilot implementation and testing, allocating facility and personnel resources, and interfacing with project scientists and technicians. 
  • Provide key strategic data to the R&DC management to set the directions for existing and prospective projects and share experiences across project teams, communities of practice, and management team on innovative approaches in refining process technologies.  
  • Explore emerging opportunities to expand refining learning and knowledge experiences and participate in international organizations, associations, forums, and conferences to continually bring new ideas.
  • Provide development and mentoring to junior engineers.
