Bookstore Assistant

Job Purpose

 

To efficiently and effectively maintain an organized bookstore to serve the university community.

Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • Stock, restock, and display merchandise in a neat and presentable manner.
  • Respond proactively to customer/student/parent questions about textbook and/or product availability.
  • Sell merchandise and operate cash registers.
  • Bill and credit accounts for accounts payable.
  • Prepare a monthly book status report and send it to the vendor.
  • Enter and retrieve data, produce records and reports using inventory and textbook management              database systems.
  • Arrange for returns to publishers and wholesalers.
  • Balance the cast register, including credit card activity, with computer reports daily.
  • Submit a monthly status report of all merchandise to the Dean of Enrollment Management.
  • Order, receive, return, buy-back, price, and deliver textbooks.
  • Maintain scheduled bookstore hours.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Dean of Enrollment Management.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to learn and adhere to Bookstore policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to learn and effectively utilize AURAK’s inventory and billing system.
  • Excellent communications skills, customer service skills, team player with positive attitude.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work afternoons, nights, and weekends as assigned.
  • Fluent in English and Arabic.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Ability to work afternoons, nights, and weekends as assigned.
  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience working with faculty and university leaders (provost, Deans, Chairs) to create course                   schedule and university catalog preferred.
