Assistant Professor of Mass Communication – Multimedia Production

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned Doctorate or equivalent terminal degree in the field of Mass Communication with concentration in Multimedia, Convergent Media, New Media or Digital Media, and a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in the same field, with all degrees from an accredited institution or higher education.
  • Professional experience in the media industry – broadcast, online media, digital news production, or a record of work in media convergence.
  • Prior history of excellence in teaching at the university level for at least 3 years.
  • Scholarly publications and an ongoing research agenda.
  • Commitment to undergraduate education.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with students and colleagues.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Professional experience in media industry – broadcast, online media, digital news production, or a record of work in media convergence. Ability to incorporate issues of gender, race/ethnicity, and/or comparative global perspectives into course materials.

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will:

  • Make significant contributions to teaching and advising undergraduate students. The normal teaching load for full-time faculty at this rank is 12 credit hours per semester, along with a responsibility to provide service to the department and university.
  • Teach courses in communication transformation, digital resources and content, tools and technology in communication, new media and digital culture, communication analysis and criticism, media streaming, and digital media story telling. 
  • Combine practical and theoretical specialties in multimedia production, convergent media, and digital media studies, including the interaction between the old and new media systems and platforms.
  • Share department responsibilities related to administrative and supervisory tasks and functions.
